DIBELS

What is DIBELS?
The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of assessments that determine early literacy skills for kindergarten through sixth grade. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills.  Your child will be assessed 3 times during the year to determine his or her reading fluency rate.  Fluency rates usually have a direct correlation with a child's ability to comprehend text.  When a child struggles with decoding or sounding out unfamiliar words, it slows down the fluency rate and interferes with comprehension.
